Mumbai, The Capital And Biggest City Of Maharashtra, Will Be Served By The 10-line Mumbai Metro Urban Mass Rapid Transit System (Mrts).

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (Mmrda), Which Was Given The Task Of Developing It, Released A Master Plan With Numerous Lines Totaling 146.5 Km In 2004. The Mmrda Has Only Been Able To Create One Metro Line In The Suburbs So Far, Linking Versova, Andheri East, And Ghatkopar. These Challenges Vary From Policy Stalemate (Epc Vs. Ppp, Metro Rail Vs. Monorail) To Environmental Concerns.

In Addition To The Cuffe Parade – Bkc – Aarey Colony (Aqua Line), A New 118 Km Master Plan Was Authorized In 2015, And The Then-in-office Administration Gave Much-needed Encouragement For The Building Of Two Lines: Dahisar East – Andheri East (Red Line) & Dahisar East – D.n. Nagar (Yellow Line).

Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation (Mmmocl), A New Nodal Body, Was Founded In June 2019 To Oversee And Manage All Mumbai Metro Services On Mmrda-owned Lines. A Revised 337 Km Master Plan With 10 Lines (Totaling 17 Sections) For The Maha Mumbai Metro Network Was Announced By The Mmrda In September 2019.

For The Majority Of The Lines, The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Has Offered Its Services As An Interim General Consultant.

Mumbai Metro – Operational Lines

Line-1 – Blue Line: Versova – Andheri – Ghatkopar (11.4 km, 12 stations)
• Operator: Mumbai Metro One Private Ltd. [JV of Reliance Infra (69%), MMRDA (26%) & Veolia Transport (5%)]
• Stations: Versova, D.N. Nagar, Azad Nagar, Andheri, Western Express Highway (WEH), Chakala, Airport Road, Marol Naka, Saki Naka, Asalpha, Jagruti Nagar, Ghatkopar
• Depot: Four Bungalows (DN Nagar)

Line-2A – Yellow Line: Dahisar (East) – Andheri West (18.6 km, 17 stations)
• Owner: Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)
• Operator: Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation (MMMOCL)
• Depot: Malvani in Charkop (shared with Red Line)

Line-4 – Green Line: Bhakti Park (Wadala) – Ghatkopar – Thane – Kasarvadavali (32.32 km, 32 stations)

• Depot: Vikhroli & Mogharpada
• Note:  On the north side, the line is currently being extended by 2.88 km to Gaimukh (Line-4A with 2 stations) and is approved to be extended by 9.2 km onward to Mira Road (Line-10 with 4 stations). On the south-side, the line in the future will be extended to the CST Station (Line-11 with 10 stations) in South Bombay, and possibly onward to Apollo Bunder in the future.

Line-5 – Orange Line: Thane – Bhiwandi – Kalyan (23.50 km, 17 stations)
