HOW SERVICES ARE ALLOCATED 

While allocating services to any category, many factors are taken into consideration. They are: 

1. The rank of the candidate in the CSE. 
2. Candidate’s order of preference for service.
3. Candidate’s category like General, OBC, SC, ST, etc. 
4. Availability of vacancy in the candidate’s category. 
5. Findings of the Medical Board/Appellate Board with respect to the candidate. 
6. If a candidate does not give preferences for all the civil services, and he/she doesn’t get the services for which he/she had given preferences, then he/she will be considered for the remaining services where there are vacancies after the allocation to all the candidates, who could be allocated to cadres according to their preferences.

An Officer Of An All-india Service, Such As An Ias Or Ips, May Be Assigned To A State (Or Set Of States Or Union Territories), Which Is Referred To As A “Cadre.” According To The Upsc Cadre Allocation Policy. • In Order Of Preference, The Candidates Will First Name Their Top Three Options From Each Zone.
• The Applicants Will Next Choose One Cadre From Each Zone They Have Selected.
• The Applicants Will Next Specify The Second Rank They Want For Each Chosen Zone.
• Until The Applicant Indicates A Preference For Each Cadre, Similar Actions Will Be Conducted.

If He Is Not Qualified For A Post Because Of His Lower Rank Than Other Applicants In The General Category, He Will Still Be Given Consideration For Allocation Based On His Merit And Preference Against The Available Vacancy In His Category.
• This Cadre Allocation Policy Will Replace The Previous Cadre Distribution Policy With The 2017 Civil Services Examination And 2017 Indian Forest Service Examination.
