A Guide To Project 25 Subscriber And Infrastructure Equipment Capabilities As Standardized In The Tia-102 Series.
This Document Provides A Reference List Of The Capabilities Of Subscriber And Infrastructure Equipment Enabled By The Tia-102 Series Of Published Standards. These Requirements Are Collectively Known As The “Project 25 Standard”.
The Air Interfaces Are The Most Commonly Used Differentiator For Infrastructure And Subscriber Equipment. The Defined Equipment Capabilities Are Organized In This Guide Based On The Currently Available
Fdma Conventional Trunking Tdma Tunneling
This Document Provides An Overview Of The Capabilities For Each Air Interface Grouping Along With A More Detailed Listing That Provides Explanation Of Those Listed. Both Subscriber And Infrastructure Equipment Are Addressed By This Process.
The “Project 25 Standard,” Otherwise Known As The Tia-102 Set Of Standards, Are The Result Of An Iterative And Sequential Process:
The “Project 25 Statement Of Requirements” Describes The Features And Functionalities That Users Wish To Have Published By Project 25. The Tia-102 Series Of Technical Publications Are Published By Tia As Finished Standards For Certain Functionalities And Features. The Finished Tia-102 Specifications Shall Be Adopted By Project 25 And Included In The “Project 25 Standard.”
Extensive References To The Tia-102 Series Papers Are Provided In The Tables Of This Handbook. In The Future, When The Project 25 Statement Of Requirements Becomes Available For Amendment, The Structure Of The Guide Allows For Comprehensive Referencing Of It.
As The Needs Of Customers Change And As Technology Changes, So Too Does The Tia-102 Series And The Project 25 Statement Of Requirements. Over Time, This Paper Will Also Evolve. Revisions In The Future Will Continue To Promote Understanding Of The Common Attributes And Capabilities Available To The Project 25 User And Planner Community.
Version 1.0 Was The First Release And Was Restricted To Subscriber Equipment Features. Version 1.4 Was The Second Publicized Release And Only Clarifications Were Added Into It. Version 1.x Was The Third Publicized, And In This One, Support For Conventional Fsi And Trunked Issi/cssi Was Added.
While They Are Complementary, There Are Instances Where The Project 25 Statement Of Requirements And The Tia-102 Series Do Not Align. This Misalignment Is, In Many Cases, A Result Of Some The Sor’s Capabilities Not Having Been Developed Into Tia-102 Standards Or Approved By The Project 25 Steering Committee For Inclusion In The P25 Suite Of Standards.
This Document Serves A Number Of Purposes.
There Will Be At Least Two Different Types Of Tables In Each Section. The First Type, Entitled “Feature Summary”, Will Be A High Level Overview Of The Services; Another, Entitled “Feature Detail,” Will Give The Specific Details Of The Features Of Each Service. In This Case, Frequency Bands Will Be Included In The High Level Overview.
The Document Tia-102 Documentation Suite Overview Summarizes A Significant Portion Of The P25/tia-102 Services And Functionality. The Tia-102 Core Technical Standard Publications Provide Much More Technical Detail Than Is Included In These Summaries.
There Will Be Two Parts For “Fdma Conventional – Non-voice Service,” Which Correlate To Various Operating Setups. Traditional Operations Of Two Categories Will Be Covered In One;
(1) Fixed Operations, Where One Transmitting Subscriber Uses A Single Frequency To Communicate Directly—that Is, Without The Use Of A Repeater—with One Or More Other Subscribers; And,
(2) Conventional Operation Such That A Single Transmitting Subscriber Speaks To A Repeater, And The Repeater Retransmits The Exact Same Message On A Different Frequency Than That Used By The Transmitting Subscriber To One Or More Subscribers. For “Fdma Conventional – Non-voice Service,” Fne Systems Will Be Addressed In The Second Part.
In These Legacy Systems, The Sending Subscriber Speaks With A Repeater That Is Hardwired Connected To A Fixed Host Computer Or Server. Although The Majority Of The Services And Features Are Identical, There Are Some Significant Differences Between The Different Operating Environments. The Feature Detail Tables Will Reflect Those Differences.
The Blank Columns Provided For The P25 Subscriber Common Air Interface, Analog Fm Standard, Analog With Signaling, Mobile Data Terminal Interface, And The Key Fill Device Interface Will Allow The User To Inventory Current Features On Their Current System Or Note Desired Features For Future Systems.
For Each Service, Feature, Or Capability Which The User Already Has In His Existing System, Type “H” (“Have”), And If It Is Needed In The New System, Fill In “W” (“Want”). In Earlier Editions Of This Handbook, The P25 Sor Reference Column Entries Were All Empty. In This Edition, Every Entry In Each Detailed Table Has A Reference To The P25 Sor. The Published Standards Are Far More Detailed Than The P25 Sor.
This Sometimes Means That Many Of The Capabilities Described In This Article All Track Back To The Same P25 Sor Item. It’s Worth Noting That Any Mention Of A P25 Sor Section Heading Shall Be Taken To Include All Of Its Associated P25 Sor Sub-items.
It Should Be Noted That It Is The Responsibility Of The User To Determine The Applicability Of All Recent Document Revisions; The Tia-102 Column In Each Table Does Not Have An Objective To Show The Latest Modifications Or Addenda.
