We Thank The Hon’ble Union Minister Of Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, On The Occasion Of The August 12, 2024, Publication Of The India Rankings 2024.

But Then, All In All, The Ninth Consecutive Edition This Year, The India Rankings For Institutions Of Higher Education In Five Categories: Overall, Colleges, Universities, Research Institutions, And Innovation; The Eight Subject Domains Of Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Law, Medical, Architecture & Planning, Dental, Agriculture & Allied Sectors; And Three New Categories Of Open Universities, State Public Universities, And Skill Universities.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework, Or Nirf, A Framework For The Ministry Of Education, Government Of India, Was Launched On September 29, 2015, And Has Since Been The Basis For This And All Previous Editions Of The India Rankings, Most Recently In 2016.

Unlike Many Of The Other Rankings In The Popular Media, The Parameters And Metrics That Are Used To Build Up The India Rankings Are Of An Objective Kind, And The Information Is Based On Data Provided By The Institutions Themselves, Along With Other Independent Sources Such As Derwent Innovation, Web Of Science, And Scopus. Metrics, Comparison Methodologies, And Data Collection Formats Have All Continuously Improved Over The Last Nine Years.

With The Inputs Of Stakeholders, Experiences Gathered Over A Period Of Time, And Cues Taken From International Ranking Practices The Process Of Consolidation, Improvement, And Expansion Moves On In The Nirf Parameters Established In 2015 Towards Creation Of The Ġndia Rankings 2024.

This Has Been A Successful Procedure In Finding And Putting In Place Useful Benchmarks Against Which The Performance Of Academic Institutions In India Can Be Evaluated. The Basic Framework Has Persisted Over Time, But Metrics, Parameters, And Normalization Algorithms Have Changed.

Consequently, With Minor Variations In Ranks Of Institutions At Large, Individual Ranks Have Been More Or Less Consistent Within Rank Bands Of The Top 25. This Consistency Itself Is An Indication Of Interdependence And Coherence Among The Various Ranking Parameters In Truthfully Bringing Out The Leading Institutions In The Categories And Subject Areas Specified.

Pre-registration Of Participating Institutions From The Previous Year Continued, While Open Advertisements Were Used To Invite New Institutions. There Was A Total Response From 6517 Unique Institutions Offering To Be Ranked In Categories Of Either “Overall,” “Category,” Or “Domain.” These 6517 Special Institutions Received A Sum Total Of 10,845 Applications In All, Of Different Subject Areas And Categories.

“The India Rankings Have Indeed Inbuilt The Culture Of Data Collection, Compilation And Curation For Ranking Purposes And It Had Been For Institutions Who Had Put In Efforts To Keep Data On Manage Faculty, Students, Placements, Infrastructure, Library Expenditure, Laboratories, Equipments And Operations.” Such Data Are One That Institutions Will, Through The Analysis Of Trends, Use To Smoothen Processes And Better The Student Experience. Universities Are Rankable In Two Rank Bands Of 50 Each In Addition To Ranking In Two Rank Bands Along With The Overall Ranking Of 100 Institutions. Three Rank Bands For Engineering And Colleges Rank 200 Additional Institutions: Two Rank Bands Of 50 Each, That Is, 100-150, 151-200, And One Rank Band Of 100, That Is, 201-300.

From 2022 Onwards, The Number Of Ranked Institutions Among Management And Pharmacy Areas Is Increased From 75 To 100 And Accordingly, The Number Of Institutions That Are Ranked In Each Of These Two Disciplines Is Increased An Additional 25 Within The Rank Band Of 25. Similarly, For Subject Domains Like Architecture And Planning, Law, Medicine, Dentistry, Professed-oriented Institutions, Agriculture And Its Allied Sectors, Research Institutions, And So Forth, The Number Of Ranked Institutions Will Vary From 40 To 50.

Now, With Respect To The Recently Added Categories, 50 State Public Universities Are Ranking This Year With An Extra 50 In A Rank Band Of 51-100. But In Categories Like Skill Universities And Open Universities Just Three Institutions Are Ranked In Each. Turning To The Innovation Institutions, A Total Of 40 Institutions Are Ranked In Rank Bands Ranging From 11 To 50 With 10 Institutions Being Ranked.

Every Detail Of Information From Ranked Institutions Is Cross-examined. Inconsistencies, Contradictions, And Outliers Have To Be Carefully Selected And Removed Through Careful And Patient Examination. Institutions, When Questioned About The Authenticity Of The Data, Have To Be Tackled Carefully; In The Same Way, It Requires Patience And Sensitisation Toward Standards Of Data Quality. The Nirf Team Follow Triangulation Techniques Through Which Inconsistencies In Data Are Not Only Identified But Are Sorted In Consultation With The Concerned Institutions.

The Focus On Data Accuracy Has Yielded Lower Inclinations Of Institutions Inflating The Numbers. The Nirf Team Can Explore New Parameters For Future Rankings—perhaps Covering More Institutions, Modulate Ranking Parameters And Metrics As Data Credibility Increase:.

The Ranking Framework Uses The Five Basic Categories Of Parameters: Teaching, Learning, And Resources; Research And Professional Practice; Graduation Outcome; Outreach And Inclusivity; And Perception. The Total Score Of All These Parameters Is Calculated For The Rank. Now, The Analysis Of All Parameters, From A Five-dimensional Perspective, Brings Out The Relative Strengths Of These Institutions.

There Is A Very Strong Positive Correlation Between Overall Rank And Research And Professional Practice Rank. Publicly Funded Institutions—generally Cftis And Centrally Funded Universities—dominate The Top Ranks In Most Categories. However, A Large Number Of Universities And Institutions That Have Funding From The State And Private Sector Also Show Up In The Top 100 Rankings Across A Wide Range Of Subjects And Categories.
