The Jio Mobile Number Series List is a useful reference for people who want to identify Jio phone numbers. Since Reliance Jio has millions of customers, the government has assigned them specific starting numbers (prefixes) to distinguish them from other telecom companies like Airtel or Vodafone.
What Is a Mobile Number Series?
In India, the first four digits of your mobile number are called the “series.” These digits act like a code that tells you:
- Which telecom company provided the SIM card (in this case, Jio).
- Which state or region the number belongs to (also called the Telecom Circle).
For example, if a number starts with 7001, the digits “7001” help identify the operator and the location.
Common Jio Number Series
Reliance Jio primarily uses numbers starting with the digit 7. If you see a number beginning with this series, it is very likely a Jio number.
- 70 Series: This is the most common series for Jio. It was one of the first batches released.
- 71 Series: This series is widely used for prepaid connections in many cities.
- 72 and 73 Series: These are newer numbers, often given to new customers or data users.
- 74 Series: This range is often used for business connections or bulk SIM cards, though regular users have them too.
Shared Number Series (80–99)
Numbers starting with 80 to 99 are a bit more complicated. These series are shared among many different operators. While Jio does own some numbers in this range (like 90, 91, or 98), you cannot assume a number is Jio just by looking at these digits. It depends entirely on the specific state where the SIM was bought.
Regional Differences
The government assigns specific blocks of numbers to specific regions.
- North India (Delhi, Punjab, UP): Often uses 70xx, 71xx, and 72xx.
- West India (Mumbai, Gujarat): Frequently uses 70xx, 72xx, and 73xx.
- South India (Tamil Nadu, Kerala): Commonly uses 71xx and 74xx.
- East India (Bengal, Assam): Uses a mix of 70xx and 74xx.
Important Note: Ported Numbers (MNP)
This is the most important rule to remember: The number series only tells you the ORIGINAL operator.
If a person bought an Airtel SIM and later switched (ported) to Jio, their number will still look like an Airtel number, but the service will be Jio. Similarly, if someone with a “7001” Jio number switches to Vodafone, they keep the number, but the service changes.
Therefore, while the series list is a good guessing tool, the only way to be 100% sure is to use a network lookup tool or check the phone’s active network.
