Corruption is a widespread problem in India. There are many reasons for corruption.
• The use of black money in elections to win creates the need for money. It is earned through corruption.
• Low salaries.
• Lack of monitoring and control system.
• Lack of moral values.
• Greed and selfishness of the corrupted people.
• Poverty, illiteracy, and unemployment.
• Tolerance of people towards corruption.
Consequences of corruption
• Corruption is not only a moral issue it is also a developmental issue.
It affects the development of a country and prevents it to reach the level of a developed nation.
It results in social inequality. It widens the gap between the rich and the poor. A weak economy will increase poverty.
• Exposure to day-to-day corruption significantly affects the mental health of the people. It will affect trust and may lead to psychological and social disorders.
• The funds that need to be spent by the government will get diverted and remains black money. Corruption will affect the sectors like education, health, etc.,
• Corruption leads to lower productivity in the workplace. Lower productivity will damage the administration or an organization.
This results in a rise in unemployment. Corruption erodes the trust we have in the public sector. Corruption will waste our taxes and they will not be used either for the development or welfare of the public.
Corruption is not just a problem in government. The private sector is also facing the problem of corruption.
India is the 85th least corrupt nation out of 180 countries according to the 2021 Corruption Perceptions Index reported by Transparency International.
In India, most people believe that there is a high level of corruption. Many believe that they can have access to public services only by paying a bribe.
Now, it’s time to control corruption in India. We need to have a corruption-free India. However, we cannot achieve a corruption-free India overnight, it is a war that needs to be continuously fought.
• India needs to be corruption free for a developed nation. Undetected and unchecked corruption can cause serious damage to public resources and money.
• Our government should be honest, transparent and accountable.
• The public sector employees (Government employees) should act in the interest of the public.
• Public awareness should be raised regarding corruption and encourage them in reporting.
• The literacy levels of the people should be enhanced.
• By usage of modern technology (like the installation of CCTV in all government offices) we can check corruption. Conclusion Poverty and unemployment are a product of corruption.
If we want to reduce the poverty and unemployment, we need to check corruption. Corruption is a big threat to our economy.
It is causing serious damage to our economic development. Party in power alone cannot bring a change in society.
We as an individual should try to bring a change and fight against corruption. We should keep our fear aside and fight against social evils like corruption.
