Estimates Put The Total Outlay Of The Gigantic Project At 10.63 Lakh Crore. The Objective Of The Bharatmala Project Is To Connect The Country’s Far-flung And Isolated Districts.

50 National Routes Will Be Constructed, And Freight Traffic Congestion Will Be Less. Freight Will Be Carried On National Roads Along Such Routes.
There Will Be 550 Connected Districts In The Country. Currently, National Roads Connect Only About 300 Districts.

Bharatmala Is An Umbrella Program For Projects On Road And Highway Construction. All Existing Initiatives Of Such Nature, Including The National Highways Development Programme, Among Others, Would Get Subsumed Into Bharatmala.
Implemented From 2017 To 2022, The Bharatmala Is A Mega Initiative Of Roadways. Some Of Its Salient Features Are The Construction Of Economic Corridors, Feeder Roads, Inter-corridors, Interconnectivity Of Logistics Parks, Coastal And Port Interconnectivity Roads, Border And International Connectivity Roads, And National Corridor Efficiency Improvement.
A Minimum 4-lane Roadway Will Be Connected To The Headquarters Of More Than 550 Districts Of India Under The Bharatmala Project. Strengthening Freight Efficiency Through Highways Is One Of The Primary Aims Of The Bharatmala Project, Along With The Construction Of New Roads And Highways.
Besides The Golden Quadrilateral, North-south, And East-west Corridors, More Than 26000 Km Of Economic Corridors Would Be Built Under The Bharatmala Project. In All, These Would Account For An Aggregate Share Of Over 80% Freight Traffic On Roads Against Less Than 40% At Present. This Would Be Achieved Through 26 Logistics Parks, 66 Inter Corridors, 116 Feeder Highways, And Seven Northeast Multi-modal Waterway Ports.

All This Enhancement Will Be Carried Out Through The National Corridors Efficiency Program. This Will Involve The Construction Of 30 Ring Roads, 45 Bypasses, And Decongestion Of 185 Choke Points.
The Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Authority Has Said That All Operational Problems Related To Every Expressway Under The Bharatmala Project Would Be Sorted Out By December 2023. Apart From Road Beautification And Setting Up Of Solar Parks Along The Bundelkhand Expressway, It Would Also Have Flyovers And An Underpass To Save Wildlife. A 17-km Long Protected Corridor For Wildlife Will Be Built On The Raipur Vishakhapatnam Expressway.
The Indian Institute Of Technology Has Proposed A Sensor-based Monitoring System In Banaras Hindu University; The Proposal Has Already Been Forwarded To The Federal Government. Basically, The New System Targets Issues Such As Overloading, Overspeeding, And Movement Of Cars In The Wrong Direction.
